Who Am I? The Fire Energy “Love is not a transaction but a burning flame within you. When it burns the core of who you are, it is liberating.” - Sadhguru, Yogi, Mystic, Visionary The Five Great Elements, the Godai, have physical, psychological and spiritual effects on our overall well being and the energy within us.  Physically our elemental make up consists of: earth 12%, water 72%, fire 4%, air 6% and ether 6%. Psychologically speaking, our behaviours, thoughts, and emotions are affected when the elements are in balance, overactive or underachieved.  As martial arts practitioners, our goal spiritually is to move our energy in an upwards direction from earth, to water, into fire, air then ether. Yogic culture explains this by the term, Bhuta Shuddhi which means “the purification of the elements”. The five elements create a purification in nature and within us.  This natural purification includes:
      • Earth dissolves in Water
      • Water evaporates in Fire
      • Fire merges into the Air
      • Air disperses in Ether
It is said that as each element is cleansed it becomes lighter as you move the energy upwards to the next element.  Unlike the four primary elements, ether does not require purification and is the lightest of all the elements.  The Burning Energy of Fire Fire is associated with the third chakra located at the solar plexus, and represents our body temperature and our digestive system functioning. Our fire within ignites our burning desires to act, to create and be a positive source of confidence, power and identity. An untamed fire energy can diminish our well being if not in balance. As we move the fire energy upwards to air, it fuels our ability to love and connect with others.  Positive affirmations such as, “I am powerful” or “I can do anything I set my mind to” are generated by our fire energy.  The fire energy is one of the most powerful energies of the elements. When we bring fire and the energy of the other elements into our meditation, it opens the energy flow between inner and outer forces or situations, and if necessary, allows us to remove any negative emotions, as we recognize that everything and everyone are composed of these same elements. Being one and the same opens up our ability to be compassionate and loving to ourselves, to others and all things. This connection to our five elements is the source of liberation.    Below is a meditation exercise you can do alone or with the entire family.  FIRE MEDITATION  To start, sitting up tall, back straight, close your eyes, breathe in through the nose filling the stomach and out through the mouth, slowing down your breathing and clearing your mind. Now take yourself away to a quiet private natural setting, imagine you are in your very special place, your sacred space. A place that brings you joy.  Your place is unique to you.  Now with your sacred space in mind… I am Fire Energy  I ignite my core with the energy of the sun I feel the heat of the sun on my skin and it warms my body The energy of the sun’s rays restores my fire energy supply I feel the warmth  What burning desire do I have?  Where in my life do I need to be courageous right now? I am light, I beam like the bright sunshine I am powerful I feel the fire energy pulsing within  I feel passionate about my life I am light, I am inspiration I feel the rising fire energy spinning throughout my entire body  I am fired up, I am creative I radiate with light and love.
