An important announcement from Environmental Defence...

The momentum is building to stop the reversal of Enbridge’s Line 9 oil pipeline.Hundreds of people have joined our request for a full environmental assessment of this risky project. Last week, we held our first telephone town hall about Line 9. Thousands of people participated. We were overwhelmed with the response and concern for risky oil projects like Line 9. Will you join us in saying NO to oil spills and climate change? In support of our work to protect Canada from reckless tar sands expansion, one of our donors has generously offered to match all gifts made to our climate change and tar sands campaigns, up to $10,000. This pledge means that your gift today will be doubledand have twice as much impact on our critical work to slow down unchecked tar sands expansion. Reversing Line 9 could negatively affect our environment and health. Many Canadians have offered their support to help stop the Line 9 tar sands pipeline project. Will you join them by making a gift that will be doubled? If approved, this pipeline proposal could allow Enbridge to ship potentially more dangerous tar sands crude through Ontario and Quebec, putting the homes, farmland, and drinking water of millions of people at risk of a tar sands oil spill. And shockingly, new rules are making it extremely difficult for the public to participate in the upcoming Line 9 hearings. Please stand with us today to protect our environment. Just a few weeks ago, a similar pipeline in Mayflower, Ark. spilled tar sands crude. The Pegasus pipeline, which spilled on March 29, was an aging pipeline that was reversed, switched to tar sands oil, and the flow was increased—exactly what Enbridge is proposing to do with its 38-year-old Line 9 pipeline. We can’t afford the same mistakes here in Canada. We can’t afford to put ourselves at risk of a tar sands oil spill. Thank you for helping to stop the rampant increase of tar sands projects. The momentum is building and with your help, we can get the job done together. Many thanks for all that you do, The Environmental Defence team
